Live at the Commerce 9/18. Hopefully no description of the game necessary.

Some unknown guy sits down and posts in MP3. Folded around to him, and he checks. I'm in the CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. The button is very tight, and the SB is a fairly tight/solid player. The BB is horrible.

I decide if I can get the button and SB to fold, a raise is in order. I don't like limping with A-rag-off, but I don't think I can fold what is probably the best hand. So I raise.

Button folds, SB calls. BB calls. Poster calls. 4 to the flizzle.

Flop cometh J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

Checks to me. I don't really like checking or betting. But some good things can happen if I bet. So I do.

SB calls, BB calls, poster in MP3 folds. 3 to the turn.

Turn cometh: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

SB now bets out. BB does what he does best: he calls.

I want to raise or fold once again -- calling sucks here. I think with the overlay BB is offering with his calling station-ism and the added probability that SB could be on a draw, I think raising for a free showdown might be correct. But I dunno.

I raise. SB calls, BB calls.

River cometh: 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

SB checks, BB checks. I think for a moment and check.

id bet the river, i dont really think we need to worry about SB raising, he could have a better ace, but i want value from BB

I actually want to check behind on the flop. This flop will hit a lot of hands and people will probably see the river. If someone paired we only have a dirty ace to bail ourselves out. I take my free flop card.

hmm, I like preflop. Isolating bad players with hands with showdown value is fun. plus, you can buy some position.

the flop, I really prefer a check. the primary reason is the range of hands callers from the SB/BB will have is usually in what my coach calls the "T range"...so we're looking at hands like T9, T8, QT, JT, 87, 98, etc. now against one player that isn't enough to deter me from making the bluff with the best hand that certainly gets the fold 1 time in 5, but 4 way it usually turns out that these middle-range coordinated flops hit multiple opponents. if I had a decent gutshot with the ace of trump, then I can start to think betting = good. but here I just think my equity is too low.

on the turn, I can't decide between call and raise. I suck.

I think the river is a bet, I can't put SB on anything that really beats you because why not 3 bet the turn. you'd pay that off as much as you'd pay off a river checkraise on a total blank so why not get the BB for as many BB's as possible. BB pays off with [censored], hence, IMO, bet.

I don't think calling sucks. One thing I do know is that folding is out of the question. But, between raising and called, I'd prefer calling because of your description of the SB as a "fairly tight/solid player". I'm a bit concerned that we're outkicked here.

However, if we do decide to raise, we're obviously folding if SB 3-bets, and I think it's best to take a free showdown since I think SB will check the river with hands such as A8 or A10.

Hi Joker,

I miss playing during the weeknights. I think it's a good move on your pf raise, although it would have been better if both blinds had folding tendencies. Since BB is a loosey-goosey AND SB is solid and SHOULD be able to see your raise attempt to isolate two random hands, I'd pick better hands to make this raise. I've spent $$$ learning that almost all low-limit players will play any ace, so I rarely play ace-little anymore.

Flop bet is good. Turn raise is suspect. Do you think you can really get SB to fold? Do you think SB is capable of making a move on you without a bigger ace/better hand? If he is that type, definitely raise. But from your description, I don't think so. I don't see him cold-calling you preflop without something like AQ or similar.

I would have played this hand exactly the same. I personally think a flop lead is pretty standard. I know, big field, but I'm betting and checking the turn. When I hit that Ace I am raising too.

I can't figure out the river. As I said, I play it same so I check, but how much value does the extra caller bring to the situation?

Also, for those who didn't like the raise PF, do you just call? I have trouble entering pots on the button with only one limper and not raising. I need to work on it.

I think the alternative to raising is folding, and for me, it's a tossed salad as to what I want to do pf.

What is the flop bet supposed to accomplish? It won't win the pot for you...It might get you a free card with a 3-outer but I don't think anyone is letting you see a showdown without putting at least one more bet in with A-high.
