What I am wondering is if I could have folded this river after his bet, due to the threat of reverse domination. Should I have just called? I really just got carried away by the sight of the ace and forgot the tendency of player to play any ace. Thanks for any input,

Completely standard. If SB had paired his kicker, he should've bet the turn, but once he 3-bet the river I agree with not putting in another.
