Default How Do You Play It?

Five-handed game with all donks, I'm the only one who studies (i.e. these players are difficult to bluff, since they're huge calling stations) Everyone starts with 12,000 chips, blinds at 100/200

I'm dealt 9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG

I raise to 600 and get FOUR callers. Pot is now 2,400

Flop is 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

The blinds check to me (only one caller after me to act) and I bet out 1,800 chips. I get one caller, heads-up to the turn. This caller is the biggest donk at the table.

Heads-up on the flop of K/8/3 she calls my all-in with 10/5 offsuit in a previous game.

Turn is A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Pot is now 6,000 chips, and having lost a decent pot to limped Kings in a previous hand, I don't have many chips to work with. I've got about 5K left. Figured she was on a flush draw after she checked, she was just staring at the board, like she was trying to find something in the cards that were out to help her.

So I pushed all-in. She called and flipped up A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Anyone play this differently?

No matter how hard you bet the turn, you can't make the ace disappear from the board.

It's a funny phenomenon, and one that is seen frequently in poker: a bad card comes on the turn and the natural reaction is to try to murder it with your chips.

If the blind structure is slow, you should limp more and raise less.

There comes a point where the donks are so donkish (and this looks like a possibility here) that the only way you can get enough chips into a pot to get knocked out is if you bet them yourself.

See flops, see turns, see rivers, bet big when you can't be beat.

Again, if the blinds are steep, or one of the donks can count to Jack, then this post isn't relevant.

What they said.

Home game, right?

Just ask her if she has the Ace.

Actually, a no-money game at work. But yeah, they donk it up real good. They certainly pay off nicely when you've got the nuts. But they'll draw to hands that need runner-runner, it's insane.

I figured she was on some type of uber-longshot draw, didn't like the Ace on the turn. Ah well, I wouldn't have gone so crazy if we were playing for money. They will pay you off when you hit the nuts, but I like to play an aggressive game, I keep forgetting that you can't bluff or push these guys out too often. If they hit bottom pair they'll stick around.

Ummmm... yeah.

PS- Note to Citanul, I think we should break the forum into 2 after all... a play money forum, and a real money forum.

Okay the problem here is that you built a pot that you would really, really want to win. But you kind of have to get really, really lucky to win it.

What do you want to see on the turn? Because you have 4 donk callers, let's rule out 2-6, a diamond, and A-T. Seriously, those would ALL be scare cards for me. This leaves you with 7-9...and after you take out the diamonds that leaves you with 7 total cards. 7 cards that you would like to see, and 40 that you wouldn't.

Okay so it's not a big deal, you just need to understand that you're looking for a very special turn. But then you make a bet that, if called, makes the pot so big that you will do anything to win it. Including, apparently, push any turn.

You can't play on the flop without considering what you will have to do on the turn and river. Well you can, but you end up in crappy situations like this.

So you gotta play the flop in such a way that you don't have such a nasty turn situation. Either push the flop or just check it. Pushing reduces the likelihood of getting called, which would be pretty nice here. When it does get called, you'll be gamling vs overcards or a flush draw or a straight draw or a pair..but not all of em.

No one will play for real if no money is involved, unless you're all a bunch of aspiring pro's trying to learn, which it doesn't sound like. Just treat it like the social event that it is and have a good time.

It's no money at work, because it's at work. I play for real money in home games, the casinos, online, etc.

Despite it being no money, I still try to get reads and play well. I will encounter donks like this in real games, who play a $100 tournament, or $500 tournament, like it's play money.

I think with her A/7 offsuit, she sees 2/3/6 on the flop and thinks "wow, I've got a straight draw" and continues on. No understanding of pot odds, etc. Wish a 7 had hit instead, she would've still called my push.

Just talked to her before she left work tonight. Asked her what she was thinking when she called on the flop. Sure enough, she was thinking "I have a straight draw".

Yes, I know play money vs. real money irritates some folks. But she does play real money sometimes as well, so it's nice to know what's going through their heads when they make these calls.

Oh, well I had K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and the board was 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] so I had a flush draw

Wish I could've gotten her to my home games before I stopped hosting.
