anyone have any idea how many hours and at what rate a player would have to play to basically live free in a casino, only playing in the poker room?

This varies by casino. There are a number of threads on the subject.

The best way to get a room comp, I have heard, is to play Pai Gow poker, especially if there is a large jackpot. The game is not a fast as blackjack, there are alot of pushes, which amounts to less standard deviation, and the jackpot potential and comps may turn it into a break even or slightly profitable game.

This is what I've heard. I have absolutely no experience of this.

To my knowledge, what you are asking for will never happen. They don't comp free rooms for poker players like they do for table games or slots.
