Default Legal Raise?

I played in a 2 Table Tourney and we were down to 3. Blinds 200-400.

Button Limps
SB goes all in for 600
BB (me) calls the extra 200
Button Re-raises All-In.

Is that a legal raise?

According to official rules, no. If the SB had gone all-in for 800, then the button's re-raise would be legal, as the SB's raise would be a legal minimum raise, thus re-opening the betting.

Of course, house rules generally take precedence over official rules, so be sure to clarify this kind of thing with whoever's running the game before it begins.

is correct. I assume the Button flat called for 400, The small blind did not have enough to cover the min raise of 400 so the main pot would be 1800, start the side pot on the flop.

Yes the raise is legal if you say he had exactly 600. The rule is if the all-in puts in at least 50% of the min raise, then it counts as a raise (raising 200 is exactly 50% of the min raise of 400). If the all-in is anything below 50% of the min raise, then it counts as a call, so the button would only have the option to add the extra money to call.

I believe there is a distinction between limit an no-limit. In limit an all-in raise of half or greater of the minimum raise re-opens the betting. In NL the all-in raise has to equal the entire minimum raise to reopen the betting.

Since the OP doesn't specify whether it's limit or NL either of the two answers given so far may be correct.

All depends if its limit or NL. Limit, he can reraise, NL, he cannot. Often times, people who run limit games will make the mistake that the limit rules apply here, when in fact they do not.

Yeah I've only played limit at a real b&m casino, so I've had that happen a few times on 3/6 and the guy only has a dollar left and goes all-in, but it doesn't reopen the betting... But then if it was two dollars...

I didn't know that, so in no limit the all in has to be at least the minimum raise to reopen the betting? So if the minimum raise is 400 in this case, even a 399 raise all-in would not reopen the betting because he's short one dollar?

Default Robert\'s Rules of Poker

From Robert's Rules of Poker...generally accepted as the official rules...but to each home game its own.

3. All raises must be equal to or greater than the size of the previous bet or raise on that betting round, except for an all-in wager. A player who has already acted and is not facing a fullsize wager may not subsequently raise an all-in bet that is less than the minimum bet (which is the amount of the minimum bring-in), or less than the full size of the last bet or raise. (The half-the-size rule for reopening the betting is for limit poker only.)

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for not specifying that it was a NLHE Tourney. The last post brought me to realize that the raise wasn't legal and I should have spoke up.

As for the house rules, the host is very unknowledgeable. The player who made the re-raise and I are the most knowledgeable (relatively speaking), and whenever there's a problem or question, they come to us first.
