Meh, this was a strange hand
$100-200 live NL game
7 Handed Blinds are $3/5 Stacks: UTG has $160 MP2 has $340 Hero has $420 MP1 is a LAG who rarely opens preflop without a raise. His bet size when entering a pot does not denote the strength of his hand. He's bet the same amount with AKo as J9s. MP2 is an unknown. Hero is on the button with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Preflop: UTG folds, MP1 raises to $10, MP2 calls, CO calls, Hero calls, SB calls, BB folds Flop: J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) Pot: $50 SB checks, MP1 bets $20, MP2 raises to $60, CO folds, Hero raises to $100, SB folds, MP1 folds, MP2 calls MP1's bet was a standard continuation bet, though I think he would have bet more if he had top pair, an over pair, or a set. I put MP2 on a flush draw with his raise being a semi-bluff or maybe a Jack. Turn: 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Pot: $270 MP2 checks, Hero bets $80, MP2 raises All-In $230, Hero... ? The pot is $580 and it costs Hero $150 to call. |

Re: Meh, this was a strange hand
Pot on flop is 130, with 60 for hero to call. That would bring it up to 190, so if hero was to raise pot, hero would make it 250 to go. Villain has 340 left. Pushing the flop is not a gross overbet here, and its not a bad play either.
If you bet the turn, then bet it hard, 80 does nothing. I call the raise in an instant. You are getting 4:1 and you might have the best hand, and you are about 4:1 to hit a flush in any case. Betting the turn is fine, because Im not going to get pushed off my hand if I get raised (given the pot size, my outs, and my stack size), but I push the turn if I got there like you did. But I also push flop. |

Re: Meh, this was a strange hand
You're getting 4 to 1 on a 4 to 1 shot and you may have the best hand...not much thinking to do here imo.

Re: Meh, this was a strange hand
Why are you not taking into consideration the raise on the flop with 2 pair or trips? The 4:1 odds are if he did not boat up or have quads. You might be drawing dead. Maybe he put you on a semibluff with a flush draw and hit his boat on the turn. Calling in MP with 88 Pre-flop wouldn't be a bad play for him IMO.

Re: Meh, this was a strange hand
check behind turn
if you think hes raising with the draw/weaker jack, this is a clear check behind. you will stack him if the spade falls and he has the draw, and weaker jacks only have 2 outs to tie and 3 outs to get ahead. also, you're almost dead v. a set on the turn (2 outs to another J) |

Re: Meh, this was a strange hand
Check the turn. You don't want to be pushed off your hand (which has a stack-potential draw).
