Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
Hero has $25, Villian less than $10 and no real reads on him
Hero is in BB holding Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villian calls .10 from EP, Button calls, I raise to .75, only Villian calls FLOP: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero checks, Villian bets $.40, Hero raises to $1.20, Villian calls, pot is ~$4 Turn: 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Hero checks, Villian bets all in for $6.50, Hero folds Check raising flop was piss poor, as many people at these levels will call any check raise just out of frustration, I put him on KQ or KJ especially with the all in bet |

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
on the flop either bet pot sized or if you are going to check raise just put him all in.
the laydown is marginal. |

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
lead flop/3bet all in or CR pot sized, lead turn for pot. if u do this turn should be just a math problem if u think u r behind.

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
you have to realize that inorder for the turn to have helped him, he would have underbet with a gutshot and called a raise on the flop. its kind of unlikely.
more than likely the turn didn't help him. I think I'm changing my answer from marginal to call. |

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
I tried to get fancy, which is rule #1 no to do at these limits, considering I think he held KQ, i think he would have called the pot sized bet anyways, I just saw someone stacked him when he couldn't let go of his pocket aces on a nasty board.

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
i understand but do the math.
if u pot it on flop its ~1.6 and the pot becomes ~4.8 then u lead the turn for this and a call is correct. he might have a K, but there are also many hands u beat in his range and if u r behind u have hella outs and odds to suck out. |

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
Yea I understand if I would have played the hand ABC like I should have, the money was going in on the turn regardless.
But with the way I played the hand, is this a good or weak laydown? I honestly could not put him on a hand PF, and thought for sure his call was not a flush draw but a pair with a str8 draw, hence my fold. |

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
u played with him, u assign him with a range. the way i see it a normal 25 player could do this with AK, QK, KK, AA, TT, JJ, QJ, JT, QT, 89 and air plus stupid top pair hands. u r ahead of a good amount of this range and even if u r behind u have sweet outs. without a read i fold instantly, with a read i may call instantly, it all depends.

Re: Weak laydown of top set on the turn?
I agree, I sat at the table maybe 10 hands before this one, and had no reads what so ever, hence my fold
