Default Bets or $$: How do you count the pot?

When playing online, do you count bets (as suggested in every good poker book) or do you look at the $$ and make a division to find out your pot odds?

I have to admit I don't count bets. I just look at the potsize-number, add the bets on the current street including mine and divide with the size of the bet I have to call.

I play live, so I actually have to keep track as there is no digital counter hanging above the table

Actually, I think looking at the pot as bets (rather than dollars) is the superior method, which is why I was curious of how other players did this. Unfortunately counting bets as they go in is way too difficult (at least for me) when multitabling so I just look at the counter, adjust for the bets going in and divide. A digital counter that converts dollars to bets would be great.
