Blind defense

I've been reading wildly conflicting advice on how and when to defend blinds, and someone said defend with any ace, so I gave it a shot.

Preflop: I didn't think the hand was worth raising, so I called. Mistake?

Flop: I figure I have some outs, the button was probably trying to steal with at least something, and the flop probably didn't hit him. Should I have led the flop?

Turn: I'm told I need to check/raise more, so I did, fully expecting to get 3-bet by AK.

PokerStars 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

6 folds, Button raises, Hero calls, 1 fold.

Hero checks, Button bets, Hero calls.

I don't see any problems with this hand. Any reads on Villain? I think I would have played it the same way.
