Default A5o Blind Defense

Villain is a "thinking" LAG - he thinks more than most donks, but is still predictable. I've got him as 66/30/2.1 w/ a 34 WtSD. He's a loose stealor, but not stupid. edit: Also I should note he autobet whenever checked to. Always. I was planning on raising almost any turn, it just worked out this way. I'm most interested in my preflop and turn play.

I disagree. This play does have merit, he will call you down with lots of hands, he may even 3 bet with a worse hand. This also sheilds you for some turn check raise bluffs.

It would be more standard to check/call down, and probably better, but this play does have its place, and this might be the right spot.

On a side note, against a player who raises 30% of his hands from here, how wide should your blind defense range be?

To push him off a better hand. It doesn't matter that I hit a pair, I was going to c/r the turn anyway, regardless of almost anything that hit. I wouldn't make this play against a donk nor a 2+2-style LAG, but this guy was predictable. I felt a turn checkraise would make him lay down missed overs, especially on that board.

I like 3betting it preflop more, but this is a good way to play it too. Check calling on the turn is pretty stupid since it just gives him a free card if he has nothing

If he only stole 30% rather than the 45 or so I defend with AKs-A8s, AKo-A9o, KQs-K9s, KQo-KTo, QJs-Q9s, QJo-QTo, AA-66 and sometimes the small pocket pairs, JTs-J9s, JTo, T9s-T8s, 98s, 78s, sometimes 67s. I think I'm a little tighter than most and would probably 3bet more preflop. Against someone as aggressive as Villain I don't see much strategic benefit in 3betting, and since I'm out of position vs. a very aggressive player I think any value in 3betting is offset due to the fact that it negates the strength of the checkraise, which I feel is important to have HU oop.
