Default Rebuy Touranament -- Positive EV?

Okay, just wondering if this is a beatable game. I bought into a 40/30 rebuy tournament last night at some club. It's 40 for 5,000 chips and 70 for 10,000 right off the bat. I buy in for 40-5,000. I make it to the final table and cruise right into 5th place where i suffer a bad beat w/ KK and bust out one place out of the money.

Anyway, my question is . . .is this positive EV buying in in for only 40 . . (no plan to rebuy), b/c the large prize pool.

30 guys in tourney, total prise is as follows
1st: 1300
2nd: 660
3rd: 400
4th: 260

That's a $2620 prize pool (more than doubling the prize pool of a $40 freeze out like i am essentially playing) Are my odds correct to play this for only one buy-in on the notion that I feel i can outplay these guys and not need to buy back in, whereas they are all adding dead money to the prize pool w/ their rebuys and add ons? Or am i destined to busting out early w/ my short stack? Let me know what you guys think. Has anyone else had similar success w/ rebuy tournaments.

thank you

If you feel that you have a large advantage over the rest of the field (and I think you do) it probably is worth it to buy in for $70.

Why not 40? My point is that by buying in for only 40 as opposed to 70 I can play the tournament many more times before I have to win so that I'm making good money. I also feel I can double my chips easier than the price of nearly another tournament entry.

So do you think it is definitely better to buy in for 70 - 10,000 chips? Or 40-5,000 and look to play your way into chips??? thanks.

I think you need to reword this.

Of course it is beatable, or else we wouldn't be playing poker right?

And, uh, yes I think most of us have had THIS kind of success in a rebuy. I've done well in one. It wasn't my first try like you, but I have done well in one.

I think your question is way to vague. Are they more profitable than freezouts? That's the questions we should ask. My answer to that question is that it depends on the player. If you can wisely spend your time and money in the first hour, and are comfortable playing deeper stack poker, then they might be more profitable for you.

Hope that helps.

Brad

I didn't ask if anyone had "THIS" success in "ONE" tournament. I was asking if anyone has repeated success in rebuys w/o rebuying. sorry if i was vague. Just wondering if you can repeatedly do well w/o the luxory of rebuying when everyone else does causing them to play more loose than you would.
