Default Value Bet This River?

I have a note on this opponent: "Make lots of river value bets against him." He's loose, looser, loosest postflop.

Even still. Value bet here?

River: ($12) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero ... ?

Also, I didn't PSB the turn becasue I figured he would just call with anything. Should I go ahead and make a full bet becasue of this, or should I try to control the pot growth?

Meh. He has to be concerned that you have a 2 if he has a Q, so I would just play it safe and check behind. I think turn bet is OK, $4 slightly better maybe.

i like to bet like 4or5 on the turn but your bet is fine. if i bet 5 on the turn i check the river, and i think if i bet 3 i check behind. if u have a read that villain will call with hands u beat enough i think u can bet 6-7 but i think the check is the proper play.

Easy one based on your notes and you having top pair.

Make a bet.

If he check-raises large, then give it a thought....but cross that bridge when ya come to it....

I'm having a hard time remembering why I was so conflicted about value betting the river here. But at the time it was pretty clear to me that I should check. The idea that a worse hand would not call was definitely a factor, but there was something else going on, too. I don't remember what it was.

Overall however, I think I would typically bet this river against this type of opponent.

Hey Grunch,

I would check behind on this river 100% of the time. If you had AQ, I would consider value betting/folding to a checkraise, but the fact that you have a suspect kicker makes this a clear check behind in my opinion.

If you're going to value bet this river, you MUST fold to a checkraise.

Ah, that sparks a little recognition in my brain.

I was absolutely certian that the opponent didn't have me out kicked. This particular opponent would not have let the flop & turn go by without betting or rasising if he had any Q at all.

But I agree in concept that my kicker is very suspect against default players, and many who love to call.
