Why? Tunica WSOP event
Per Cardplayer:
Bryant King raises to $2,600 before the flop, and he's called by Captain Tom Franklin. The flop comes K-J-x, King bets $5,600, Franklin moves all in, and King calls. King shows A-K (pair of kings), and he dominates Franklin, who holds A-J (pair of jacks). Franklin needs one of the two remaining jacks to win the hand, but the last two cards are blanks. Franklin loses over $50,000 of his stack, and he is now near the bottom of the pack. Meanwhile, Bryant King is up over $100,000, and he is the new chip leader. http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tour...ogs&type=0 Could someone please explain the logic of Tom Franklins move? I just dont get it, unless he had some reason to think he had queens. Even if he did, why did he have to commit all his chips? |

Re: Why? Tunica WSOP event
Look genius, if you're so damn smart then why can't you come up with more than a sarcastac response?
Of course I have and I dont make a habit of calling raises with AJ from an early raiser, unless I have info to justify this play. Personally, I would lean toward raising if I thought my hand was good versus just calling. I would like to know from people that consider thenselves to be good players are thinking when they make this kind of play. It certainly appears that you consider yourself to be in this category, so why dont you enlighten the rest of us? |

Re: Why? Tunica WSOP event
i dont have nearly enough information to make an informed judgement here. AJ prolly had a reason for doing what he'd been doing. how do you know the guy wiht AK hadn't been stealing alot lately and so the AJ wanted to make a stand with a pretty solid hand? we dont know. theres no enough information.
relax man. u as cold as ice |

cold as ice? Ok whatever?
You never have enough info at the tables either, I thought it would have been interesting to have some of the good players here speculate. This seemed to be in line with the purpose of this forum, I guess I was wrong... |

Re: Why? Tunica WSOP event
I agree that commiting half your stack with second pair vs an EP raiser who's represented strength on the flop seems a bit suspect, but it's really hard to assesss the situation accurately unless you are there.
Capt. Tom is a good player as far as I can tell (I've played with him twice, once NL and once Razz), so perhaps he had something specific in mind. Also, don't discount the possibility that cardplayer got the details completely wrong. In a hand they reported from the 5K PL where I busted Chau Chang with AA vs KK, they said my initial raise was 25,000 when it ws 2500 and made it seem like the result of the hand made me a big stack in the tournament when all it did was get me out of desperate-shape. Also, I wish these kinds of discussions wound up in the MTT forum, where you'd probably generate a more interesting debate. |

Re: Why? Tunica WSOP event
I think the big mistake was calling without a king against a guy named king.
