Two Tournament Hands that I guess I played wrong
Am I playing this too tight here? Should I re-raise or not bother? Hard for me to tell if its the big stack picking up a pot because it was checked to him or if he has an Ace with a better kicker.
The second hand is the big hand. I pick up Kings and raise it 3x the blind. I get involved with another big stack at the table. An ace flops but so do all spades and I now have Kings plus the nut flush draw. I get raised on the flop, obviously with somebody representing an ace. I don't know what to do. Re: Two Tournament Hands that I guess I played wrong
You might say about the first hand...what gives? It seems like a stupid hand...but to me it's these types of pots I never pick up. Maybe it's the reason I never get that huge chip stack and always have an average chip stack when it gets close to the final 2-3 tables. You pick up a few pots like that a bad coinflip loss against a shorter stack won't cripple you as much.

Re: Two Tournament Hands that I guess I played wrong
I'd probally fold PF- but i'm tight like that, give me 98s and i'll call. I think on the flop you have to lead and see what develops. Alternatively you could call the flop and c/f the turn UI.
Hand 2 is trickier- depending on my opponent i might push the flop, you have the nut flush draw and if you think he's capable of folding say ATo without a spade i might push the flop, this line is fine also IMHO. |

Re: Two Tournament Hands that I guess I played wrong
He checked the river, with the ace...which I'll mention because it's really clear that's what he had. (A9).
I put him on an A10 actually, with the way he only minraised and then led 1,000 on the turn. I was thinking about pushing the flop but wasn't confident it was hitting. I had just been moved to this table and this guy mentioned as soon as I got there after calling an all in with QJ of hearts, "I CAN gamble sometimes." |

Re: Two Tournament Hands that I guess I played wrong
#1 - I wouldn't worry myself over this hand since they tend to be tricky and you're better off just saving your chips for later.
#2 - I think you can be more aggressive with this hand, especially his turn bet. He only bet 1000 into a pot of what, 2950? That shows weakness to me, especially with the 3-flush out there on the board. I would just move in, because you have your opponent covered, and he will probably fold a hand like a9 (although it wouldn't be beyond the average internet donkey to call). If he calls, you still have 8 outs to the nuts and 2 outs to the two kings left in the deck. |
