Default Various stories from TT\'s adventures at the Commerce - A9s vs TAG

I'm taking my first shot at 20/40, staked 25 BB by Metatron and 10BB by myself. The table is amazing, a dream come true. I am catching amazing cards pre flop... QQ 3 hands in a row, AK twice, pocket 9's, and almost each time I get to open-raise, it was uncanny. Unfortunately almost all my hands don't complete or I have gone to showdown a loser - aka I'm running bad. BB is the only true TAG at the table, she is a very worthy opponent, the only person all weekend I played with that actually payed attention to every last thing that occurred at the table. Everyone else in this particular hand was loose passive.

The Villain may have pegged me for a tight aggressive player who is running bad, or she may have assumed I'm a donk since I haven't hit any hands but one so far after 1.5 hours or so. Previous hand I held AKs and bet the flop & turn with a 4 flush board. The river was a 9, I lost to the big blind who called me all the way down with no draws only to pair his 69o on the river.

To the best of my memory, this is how it played out.

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

UTG limps, Hero limps, CO limps, Villain checks.

Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, CO calls, Villain calls, UTG +1 folds.

Turn: 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero bets, CO folds, Villain raises, Hero….

Whats my line?

note - fixed pre-flop

FYP? Call her down. Probably taking a shot at you with an underpair or overs, possibly the flush. She's raising anything higher than 9s PF, right? She might have made her set or two pair, have a weaker nine, or she's bluffing. Lose the least this way and keep her betting.

EDIT, and if she's hot, I 3bet this. Because that's pretty cool.

Hmm...being in the BB is scary for that board, but I think I call down, or raise the river UI.

I'm assuming you have A9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

I don't like a fold here, so is it better to call down or 3-bet?

I think I'd 3-bet in hopes of getting a free showdown. That board is a wonderful one to semi-bluff on, so she could have a wide range of hands. She's also seen you play unimproved overs aggressively, so she could be putting you to the test. Plus, if she had a real strong hand I think she would be more inclined to lead that flop in hopes of some action or checkraising the flop. The checkraise when heads up makes me think her hand is not that strong, unless the deuce hit her.

The only problem with my plan is I don't know what to do if 4-bet. I guess you have to call and fold the river UI.

I think I likethis better than my original thought of calling down. Unless she'll never play a draw like this. Waiting until the turn to CR a player with his image with QJ or the flush draw doesn't seem far fetched. And I tend to agree that if she is a strong player, she'd lead a set or two pair in hopes of building a pot.

If she's just a decent unimaginative player though I think this is a just a call down.

Perfect in a passive live game, good in any game except a really tight aggressive one?

This is normally a raise or fold hand for me. I don't like limping with A9s, nearly ever. Maybe a large-field complete, fine. But with position and a big filed I'd raise for value/initiative. IN EP if I'm playing, its a raise.

Call and spike an Ace or pair the board nice and low.

Also, what are you doing preflop? You don't limp there unless it's not your mone....ohhh, I get it.
