Default How do you determine yardage while golfing?

What do you or have you used on the course to determine distances? Would you buy it again?

I bought contacts so I could see the yardage markers. I would buy them again. They're great.

I think you develop this skill over time. Spending time at the range will help quite a bit. Knowing what a good shot with each club goes based on the range markers will help. When I am approaching a shot though I rarely think yardage. It's more of a feel on what club to pull out of the bag and a lot of other factors play into that decision. Risk on an overshot is one of my biggest issues. So I usually error on one less club if I'm gonna make an error.

If you're playing at a half decent course, there should be 250, 200, 150, 100, and 50 yard markers in the fairway, as well as on the sprinkler heads. I usually walk the yardage from the nearest marker. One exagerated step for me = 1 yard. So 23 steps from the 100 yard marker equals 123 yards.

FYI - Any device that helps you determine yardage is considered illegal.
