How does this look?
Stars $20 MTT. About 110 players left. 81 Pays. As always...i care for only the FT.
Blinds are 300/600, ante50 . I have a stack of 22,191 which is above avg. I limp UTG w/ 66. Folds to MP who pushes for 5,462. I can easily afford this call, but is it a correct call? Of course when I call here, I'm hoping for overcards. How big does my stack have to be to make a coinflip call a correct call? |

Re: How does this look?
8000 in the pot, 4800 to you. Ya, I think you call. But this isn't the question you should be asking, "why, oh why, did I limp 66 UTG?" This is a hole in your game. I've been helping out a friend on his MTT game and one of the things I've had to repeat to him is, "Accept the action you get. Don't try to create action that may not be there." 66 UTG is a fold, and you know it. It can be played limped after two limpers or it can be played to steal the blinds. Otherwise, it is a fold.
Why? Well, the situation you just found yourself in is precisely why. You are presented with a difficult decision, one in which the odds you are getting that make it a call are coming from the chips you've already put in the pot and the discounted price to call. Imagine this. UTG player limps. MP1 Goes AI for 5200. You have 66 on the button. Suddenly, everyone at the table but you and MP1 disconnect. Do you call? The answer, of course, is "no". So don't try to create a situation in which the answer is "yes". CSC |
