Default Bad Etiquette or Just Playing By The Rules?

I was playing 4-8 last night when I caught a 2nd nut flush on the river. My opponent had been aggressive to that point and bet the river, I in turn raised. When he went to call we went across the line with more chips than necessary and was forced to raise per the casino rules. I then proceeded to reraise even though I knew his intent was to just call. He then called showing his 2nd best hand of two pair. Is this considered bad etiquette or did I just maximize my winnings by useing this to my advantage?

I don't think that's the way to look at it. Rather - will your nitty re-raise and extra BB gained be -EV if players begin tightening up against you? If the table isn't paying attention, it's probably a good play. If the table is a fun, loose, 'here to gamble' kind of table, they'll probably look down on it. The kind of player you're against should factor into it too: If the opponent was a good player, it's a difficult decision; if he's a loose fish who will donate several more bets over the course of the night, I think it's an easy non-raise.

In my room, it's a player enforced rule.

Was he just cutting his chips to call? If he got called for that, it's BS. Knowing his intent, I wouldn't have raised him. The extra bet isn't worth looking like a dick and pissing anyone off on the table for, imo.

I've seen many players in my room go over the line, usually when they don't see a raise in front, with chips that I could call as in the pot. However, if it becomes a pattern, then I might call it. The 1st one I'd let slide.

It just keeps the game more friendly. Friendly games = money.
