Preflop: Hero is CO with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
2 folds, Hero raises, Button calls, 1 fold, BB calls.

Flop: (6.40 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB folds, Hero bets, Button calls.

Turn: (4.20 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Button calls.

River: (6.20 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

I do this often when I've been getting coldcalled and betting away at too many flop/turns, then check/folding the river. But only in that situation.

In short, it's perfect with a read (which you didn't post).

I agree with Entity. This is a great play when used in a specific situation or vs a specific opponent. It'll get checked through by something like JT or K6 too often against most players, especialy at the 5/10.

ok, i'm very new here to the 5/10 6 max. Obviously this is read dependant and you have listed none, but against a lot of people you are playing against I could see this working well. Not only will a ton of players make a bet here with nothing but a ton of them will call the c/r with Q high. You just have to be the judge of if you are going to get him to bet and call your check raise more than half the time he would just call your bet here. At what i've seen during my limited time here, this type of player exists.

yeah I love breaking this out after some I give up on some semibluffs/continuation bets/protecting the possible best hand bets

EDIT: but when I try it without a read I whiff way too much

i had none in particular, but man did i feel sexy. i also think that this can be good advertsing to allow you to get free showdowns in the future

Well, it's great that you felt sexy and all, but poker is about making money. And I do this when I feel like it will make money, not give me some sort of ego-gratifying boost.

And as far as metagame considerations go, it works well when your opponent is paying attention and works pretty badly when he isn't. I believe way more opponents are of the latter class than the former.

I prefer to play with the kind of people who are not observant enough to respond to this kind of thing.

I call them "Party poker players".

But we both know there are TONS of guys out there who will stab at pots ike this when checked to on the river after calling with their Axo.
