My (modest) $10/20 6max challenge
I'm keeping this off 2+2 to avoid clutter and because, frankly, the challenge isn't interesting to anyone but me. Despite that fact, I'm reposting my first 2 posts for anyone that wants to sweat me and make sure I actually get my play in.
-------------------------------------- I've been such a complete bum when it comes to playing poker lately and getting my hands in that I feel I need some sort of "challenge" to motivate myself. It's not going to be $100k in 100 days or anything ambitious like that. I'm not a bikekick, Klepton, Nate, or anyone else who I consider exceptionally good at poker. One day I want to get there, but for now I'm happy being a decent player who can make it through playing poker. Lately, I haven't really HAD to play much poker between affiliate stuff and casino whoring, both these alone were pulling in $10-15k per month, and they are still going quite well; however, I know they can't last forever and I need to get my poker playing level back to what it used to be. My goal is modest: Play 40k hands in August with a winrate of 1 BB/100 in $10/20 6max for an earn of $8,000 plus approximately $3,500 in rakeback. The point of this is to prove to myself I can make an amount capable of living the life I'm accustomed to by playing poker (which requires an over $100,000 annual income). I've never really HAD to play poker to survive since one month after I went pro (in January) because of casino whoring and affiliate work. For reference, I haven't played more than 12k hands in a single month in a long time. Anyways, I know the goal is modest and impresses no one here, so I'll be keeping my progress in a blog off-site mostly to keep myself going and motivated. I'll be at a disadvantage since I'm still on vacation in NYC and won't get to really start working until this Friday. The few hours I have played are so far so good though. Anyways, you can go here to see how I'm doing: http://metetron.blogspot.com Thanks for letting me clutter the forum, that's all I have. -------------------------------------- So, I got my first two days of playing for August in the books. I played very little on August 2nd and ran good. I also played quite a bit more on August 3rd and ran horrible for a while before making it all up and then some. There is truly a crapload of variance in this game and it's scaring me. I'm not even statistically sure I'm a winner at $5/10 6max, and here I am in the $10/20 short. I feel like I'm much better than the vast majority of my competition and when I feels someone has outplayed me in a hand, I make sure to get the hell off that table immediately. Despite all the talk that the $10/20 6max is harder than $5/10, I'm actually finding a lot of overly LAG players. Like 70/30/4 overly LAG. Anyways, It's like 6am in New York and I leave today, so I want to get some other stuff done (like visiting Central Park), so here are the stats so far for my challenge. (Actual / Goal) Hands: 1,799 / 40,000 BB/100: 3.28 / 1.00 Amount Won: $1,181 / $8,000 Total Rakeback: TBD / $3,500 VP$IP: 25.57 -- PFR: 20.96 -- WtSD: 38.10 -- W$SD: 53.13 W$WSF: 44.64 -- Att. to Steal Blinds: 38.37 Folded SB to Steal: 80.72 -- Folded BB to Steal: 60.24 Flop Aggr: 3.81 -- Turn Aggr: 2.63 -- River Aggr: 1.45 So far, obviously, very good. I am still folding my blinds too much, but I'm very happy that I've got my VP$IP and PFR up close to where I want them. This style is much more aggro then I used to be, but I think it works so much better for me. I just really hate the swings it brings on. I swung at least $2,000 today at this game. We'll see, time for sleep. |

Re: My (modest) $10/20 6max challenge
Always love reading about the challenges.
What tools are you using? Standard stuff? 4-tabling? Don't get too caught up in the results (you know this, obviously). Just playing 40k hands in a month is pretty impressive. |

Re: My (modest) $10/20 6max challenge
Good luck, I'm in the same boat in terms of moving up from 5/10 6-max, although I need to improve a bit before moving up. I gotta do some of that casino whoring eventually, seems really profitable but w/headache-inducing variance. After a recent 300+ BB downswing, I dunno if I can take those kinda swings playing something like blackjack.

Maybe you're folding the bb a tad much, but I wouldn't sweat it. You are definitely not folding the sb too much IMO.

Play 40k hands in August [/ QUOTE ] This is not modest, imo. Good luck in your challenge. |

Re: My (modest) $10/20 6max challenge
Yeah 40k is alot less modest than I am beginning to realize.
I am 4-tabling with Poker-Edge. Someone on our Foxwoods trip mentioned if Klepton could actually get 40k hands in a month, he'd be at like $80,000 per month and they were talking about it like it was reasonable, so I went with that number. Oh well, I got myself stuck into it now. |

I am 4-tabling with Poker-Edge. [/ QUOTE ] out of curiosity, how are you doing this? also, your stats look good. i wouldnt worry about the BB fold number. just dont be afraid to play back if you feel like someone is trying to take advantage of it and stealing too much. |

By downloading poker edge? [/ QUOTE ] it's banned on party skins. they threaten to close your account and take your money away, and apparently they have done this to some people. you're not taking any precautionary measures? |
