I'm almost sure I did something wrong here, but it's not clear to me what is was.

Bet the flop. Call a raise. Bet the turn when you pick up the OESD, possibly checkraising if CO raised the flop depending on how many other people called the flop bets. The river call would be fine as its possible you have the best hand and the way the hand was played, CO might have something like unimproved overs.

Any reads?

I might bet the turn once I picked up that OESD since CO checked the flop.

I would probably bet the flop, hoping CO will raise and clear out Button and MP1, and we might even lose MP3 as he'll fear the raise from CO.
As you played it, on the turn, after CO checks through AND you pick up an OESD to go with your 9's, you have to bet.
That changes the river action, if CO raises me on the turn, I'm calling and check-calling the river, if he just calls, I'm value betting pretty much every river card.

Why would you hope that CO will raise? Wouldn't that mean he has a King and we draw nearly dead?

I might throw a bet in on the flop to see if CO still likes his hand but honestly the only (logical) 3 beting hand that you're ahead of here is AQ. This is where a read would be real nice. (Are his 3-bets logical or will any pocket pair do. Does he try to get tricky in strange places. Does he check UI overs when he doesn't hit.)
Without a read I'm letting his 3 bet speak for itself and droping this on the turn bet. If he is getting "cute" with you I'd rather catch him at a time when I have a hand with beter showdown potential against 3 beting hands. If you had hit your set then I'd go to war even with the king on board and not let up till turn.

Edit: Sorry totally missed straight draw bet the turn if he raises turn check/call river

I don't think a flop raise there necessarily means he has a king, but you're right, a flop raise would still be bad.

Folding the turn here after he checks through the flop seems terrible. I'm more likely leading out the turn, calling a raise, then check-calling the river, or leading the river again if he just calls.
