Default Ipod connection / ripping question

is it necessary to rip mp3s via Itunes, I'm having trouble making it work.

No. iTunes can bring in any ripped file no matter where it came from.

Try EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Its suppose to be the best program for ripping to mp3.

Try EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Its suppose to be the best program for ripping to mp3.

EAC is the best software for ripping audio off a disc. If you want PERFECT copies, you need to use EAC in secure mode and nothing else. It's a bit overkill if you're just going to kill the wav and make it an MP3 anyway, but it does do a good job of making mp3s if you get the LAME encoder plug-in. It'll do it all for you from start to finish.
