Default Bizarre check

Villain has seemed a tad loose preflop but solid post-flop. I haven't been at the table long enough to get a much better read than that.

Seems like a value bet... or is it?

If he had a higher kicker he would have raised preflop. He has A9-A6s.

Punish him!

Value bet!

What's your plan if he raises?

It's about 80/20, with the 20% at 3/6. If I can't find a good 5/10 game, I'm playing 3/6 (which now feels like cruise control). But lately there's been several decent 5/10 games. I was running bad at first but I could tell the games were good. I kept playing my game and now I'm running okay. I just think with opportunity cost, I should be playing more 5/10. I have 300BBs for it, so I'm adequately rolled. And as long as I play 2/3 as good here as I do at 3/6, it's more profitable.

Bet and call a raise.

I'd in fact expect that a significant portion of the time (10%, maybe) you will bet, get raised, and end up having the best hand.

I don't like a river three-bet, though I think you'll be good here 70% or so (just by guessing...). The key point I think is that you are not very likely to be outkicked, as almost everyone raises AK, almost everyone does AQ, and many do AJ pre-flop.

That MP2 turn raise looks fishy to me.
He's either got a set on the turn, or he's getting fancy.

I'd be tempted to 3-bet the turn.

I'd definitely bet the river.

I'd be confused by a raise on the river and probably end up calling, but definitely not feeling very confident about it.

Regardless of the outcome, it'll be much easier to play the opponent for the rest of the session.

Why do you guys all put him on an ace -- and are worrying about kicker?

When he check-raised the turn, I was thinking more along the lines of 54s or 66/33/22. I called the turn because if I spike a club I can raise the river. If not, I can just call. But then the unusual happened -- I hit trips and the guy checks after checkraising the turn.

PJ--

Obviously the river decision should not be based on the fact that villain has an ace. But, it is certainly within villain's range. By being able to eliminate a bunch of hands that you are behind to but might take the line given (hands like A9), it becomes clearer that bet on the river should be correct.

I think that villain's turn-bet will often be total crap here. 54 and the small sets are possible, but the nature of the board means that there really aren't that many scary hands out, and so I think the likelihood villain is bluffing may be slightly increased given board texture.
