Skipping limits (X-post)
I've played 4 tables of NL100 6-max for about a month, and 4 tables of NL50 6-max for about 4 months before that. I was a winner in both limits. Last night I dabbled in 1 table of NL400 6-max for about an hour. I wasn't terribly impressed with the play (small sample size) nor scared by the bet size very much. In fact, there was the occassional maniac at the tables.
Under advice from my teacher/friend, I played very tight. However, 1 table can get a little slow especially when one is playing this way. I am properly if not overbankrolled for this game. I'm still in college, if that makes a difference. Has anybody had any (successful) experiences with skipping limits? Should I just move up 1 level? |

There is no way you have to move up. Play in games where you have an edge.

Re: Skipping limits (X-post)
I don't recommend playing 6 max tables on a short br.
You could take 1/3 of your bankroll and give it a shot. The 10 max would be best (lower variance). You can also buy in for less than the max. The most conservative course would be move to the 200, double up, and then move to the 400. (but you already knew that) |

Re: Skipping limits (X-post)
how many buyins is considered a good roll for a given limit? 20 buyins? so would 50 buyins be VERY overrolled??

What I meant was you don't have to play ever limit along the way. You might go from the 400s to the 1000s because the 600s are dead or whatever if you have the roll and think you have an edge. If you are worried about losing the money, though it sounds to me like you are being a little too conservative, just set aside X number of buyins, whatever you are comfortable losing and play them out and see how it goes. |

I wasn't terribly impressed with the play [/ QUOTE ] But you know from all your experience that this means nothing. It was one little peek at the action. Since you're a carpal tunnel poster who's "still in college," I would guess you knew the answer before posting the question. Either commit to the limit or stick with your zone. It's probably not a good idea to change your style too much until you get a feel for the calibre of play. Also, multi-tabling (4) at higher levels (NL) may pose some problems. |
