Etiquette/Rules of Order Question
Player X bets on the river and is called by Player Y. Before Player X is able to show his cards, Player Y flips his and reveals the winning hand. Is Player X allowed to muck, because his is the losing hand and Player Y essentially acted out of turn and showed first, or must he reveal his hand because he was called?

Player Y was called and should have to show his hand. That's the rule.I'm not positive I'm right.
Some may argue that since Player Y saw he had the losing hand he's allowed to muck (since he can at anytime). I donno. I'd want to see what he had.

If you have the nuts and just call me (not sure why you wouldn't raise... so I'll assume I went all in [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]), you should be flipping your cards anyway right after you call. It is very poor form to slowroll someone if your fairly certain you have the best hand. People get pissed when they get slow rolled! If you just call, you better have a somewhat strong hand, or you play like a moron [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img], so just flip 'em and lets get on to the next hand!

This has nothing to do with the nuts or slowrolling anyone. It is a rules of order question which you have not addressed at all.

I have read some convoluted rules regarding who needs to show etc... I'm not sure if they were specific to a card room or tournament, since I can't remember, but I remember them being very specific and very annoying.
Not a rule but more of an Etiquette thing is to just show your hand if you think you've one, it's more to speed things along than anything else.

[/ QUOTE ] If I paid to call the hand down I want to see his/her cards regardless of what I hold. I paid for the information, it's not like I'm slow rolling or any of that other garbage. Hell, I've called a small bet on the river knowing I was beat but wanting to see what he held. I wait to make them show first if they were the bettor, particularly if they're the kind of person that tries to avoid showing their hands at showdown.

However, if any other player dealt cards in this hand requests to see the hand then it should be shown. So, no he doesn't have to show, but if anyone else dealt cards in the hand wishes to see, then he does. Does that answer your question?
