since i wrote one up... (trip report)

ill post a trip report...

this was my first time in a casino playing poker......im only 19. didnt get carded once cuz i look older than 21 and was dressed for success

My family and I went down the shore on Saturday for night in Venice, a time where rich people get to compare boats and we get to watch them do it....o, and drink heavily. Anyway, after that we went to the Tropicana. Some went shopping, some went gambling; I obviously chose the latter. Signed up for the 4/8 waiting list and sat in about 30-40 minutes. Was card dead for a while and tried picking up a pot with middle pair with a check/raise but guy called down with top pair and a 3 kicker. Whatever, I'll be making my money soon enough.

Then I pick up aces UTG+1 and raise and get 3 or 4 callers. Had to slow down however because the board paired and guy check/raised me. I shoulda 3bet but I wanted to get a read. Took that pot down. So after that nice pot I did what I love doing at 2+2 and went "STRADDLE!!". That got some action going with a 3bet right behind me and of course I called blind. Flop comes 10 high, which is a great flop for my monster straddle hand 107o, giving me top pair. I lead out and get called. I lead the turn and the guy raises me and I just decide to call down and my 10s are good against his pocket 6s. Guy then proceeds to call me lucky because I hit the flop, which was weird because this guy would play any two because it wasn't about the hole cards, it was all about the flop. Then at this point, I started to get hot.

Folded around to me in the cutoff I raise with 89o trying to steal blinds, get called by the blinds. Flop comes A87 for middle pair and the BB bets at it, but since I wanted to be the aggressor this hand and the BB had shown that he'll bet flops with nothing, I raised the SOB and he called me. I made this play cuz two hands earlier villain showed a hand where he bet flop with nothing OOP and thought he might be doing it again. Turn is the magical 8 for the trips and he calls me down with his A7. Yay me! I take down an uneventful pot with queens and another with 10s, but then came the money hand for me.....

I'm in the BB with AQo and we get 7 limpers! and the SB completes. I raise it up to sweeten the pot(everyone gives me [censored] for doing it but I tell the I have pocket aces and I have to) just a lil bit and everyone calls! 8 to the flop for 2BB each. That's $64 in the pot before we see a flop. Flop comes AA8 with two clubs. O hell yea! I come out firing saying I have quad aces cuz remember I told everyone I had pocket aces and get 4 or 5 callers. Turn brings another club ([censored]). I come out firing again to see where I'm at and it's raised by a sucker who clearly has the flush and that gets cold called by someone else and I call cuz I still got outs to the boat and quads and obviously don't have pocket aces. The river brings the most beautiful ace I have ever seen. I bet out and get called by the guy with the flush and another who prolly had a mid pocket pair. I show my ace and say, "told ya I had quads" and take down a ~$160 pot.

The rest was me just folding for a while. I only got to play for an hour and a half, but it was well worth as I walked away with $280(35BB) in profit. All in all, it was fun even though the table wasn't very talkative even with the young punk like me trying to spark conversation. Dealers were pretty quick I thought, and there was only a minor incident. A fun night for the DemonDeac, all told.

cards ran hot. my play was OK i thought. no stupid mistakes IMO.

When did they start allowing players to straddle at the Tropicana?

If they're paying attention, the dealers will tell you that it's a blind raise, not a live straddle.

We just call it that in the DPC, since we were a bit unclear as to the technical definition of "straddle" (can we call it a dead straddle? [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] So, it's not his fault, it's mine.

(And DD, I went looking to see if you posted this.. now you've ruined the surprise for everyone next week! Do I have to look for your OTHER news?)

yea, i think it was just ablind raise. but i like to say straddle for shits and giggles.

I see, good report by the way.

The straddle is always fun even if it is just a dead straddle. It works especially well if the mean age of the table is over 50.

I tried to straddle at the Taj playing 5/10, the dealer didn't say anything but the gentleman to my right informed me that I can only raise blind.

So I decided not to, got my cards, looked down at J8o, and folded.

The guy says something like "glad you couldn't straddle huh?" I laugh, and then when it gets to him he raises. Two others call.

Flop comes A88 and I'm laughing some more. However, the gentleman is firing away, betting and raising.

One other goes with him to showdown and loses to his AA.

I laugh for a third time and say "thank you for telling me I couldn't straddle!!"
