Home game bubble strategy
OK...tell me if this is a bad play or not.
I was at a home game a while ago...we had 10 players...top 3 got paid. we were in the bubble w/ 4 players left. blinds were 400-800 and short stack goes all in. BB calls. I call. I tell him i am willing to check all the way to knock small stack out. flop was 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] He decides to go all in. I fold. He turns over qj. I got upset and tell him WTF ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO ISOLATE ME FROM THE POT! Short stack catches on the river...i ended up getting cracked.. Was this a bad strategy on his part or a good move? Please explain the logic because i want to email him this thread. Thanks LS |

Mind you, I usually do check it around unless I have a monster in that situation, but I think it's unethical to state your intentions verbally. Similar thing happened to me a while back, shortstack (pretty brutal player) moves in for some insignificant amount, my friend and I both call. He bluffs me out of the side pot, shortie wins with K-high or some garbage, I would have won otherwise. Makes sense from a certain point of view, he'd rather the bad player have the chips than me. |

"Was this a bad strategy on his part or "
Or, as in, bad strategy on YOUR part to say that- if it's not implicitly understood, then you might win money in the side pot. Or can I assume your cards were horrible, which prompted your comment? Would you have knocked the SS out, even though the SS caught the river card? It WAS still a bad all-in into a dry side pot, unless he was shorter-stacked himself and thought it was his best chance of taking the pot down. Even then, not smart to move all-in when a bet would suffice. |

Re: Home game bubble strategy
Good tournament strategy with a SS all-in and two players calling can entail 'checking it down' it is the best interest of both players to eliminate the SS. Good players know this and don't verbalize it.
betting with crap into a dry sidepot 'probably' not even having a hand to beat the All-in is just stupid. I could see betting you out if he flopped a set/two pair with a flush draw on the board but Q high is just stupid. |

Re: Home game bubble strategy
A lot of people have been saying stuff about this and I have witnessed it a lot with bad players betting a lot of money into a side pot when the short stack is all in. I sit there and wonder what the hell they are thinking, but poor players can't think. Nuff said.
