Bye for now, HUSH. I need 9 opponents
I recently spent 35000 hands beating my head against the 5/10 6-max wall at party. I went there because I have been propping for quite awhile, which involved a pretty even distribution of 2 to 10 handed play, and at one site I broke even for a very very long stretch. With prop pay, I was still doing decent, but I wanted to work on shorthanded with the aid of pokertracker, so I hopped to party for awhile. After all, everyone and his brother kills the 5/10-6, right?
Well, after about 15k hands I had slogged my way up to a .5BB/100 winrate, and it was downhill from there. At 35k hands I was at negative .15BB/100. Rakeback pulled me to the right side of 0, at least, but... sheesh. I'm aware that 35k does not a true winrate reveal, but it certainly does not look good for me owning a 2BB/100 true rate. Now I have a half-decent idea of what I would need to do to improve: -Cut down on tables. I've been playing 4. -Give a shot at playing more like 22/14 instead of my current 26/16. -Work on my river play, specifically value betting and paying off -Work on my "giving up" decisions- when I've been leading but just have to let it go. I think I make wrong decisions in both directions here, giving up initiative when I shouldn't, and charging ahead when I should check-fold. -Post more here, read more here. I am still pretty much a stranger here. That said, 2 days ago I moved back to full tables, where at last count I managed 1.5BB/100 4-tabling the 15/30 at party. Sure, I've run moderately well my first 2k hands back at 15/30 (and 20/40), but it seems SO much easier. With more multiway pots, decisions are often so much clearer. The truly bad players (50 vpips and such) seem even easier to exploit. The sharks are easier to avoid. I do not have to worry about balancing my play as much, either. So for now, I cry UNCLE, and resign myself to the full games. My time at 6max has not been a waste; I notice I feel much better than I used to in heads up situations and when the first 6 players fold. I'll probably come back with a vengeance at some point, but for now, I'm heading back to the cramped tables. Enjoy the elbow room. 2nd |

A sample size of 4 tables is nowhere near enough to statistically determine your winrate to any degree of confidence. You need at least 100,000 tables. |

I'd say if you are having a hard time beating 5/10 6max, your 1.5/bb at 15/30 is certainly not going to last. It's not easier and I don't think it's close.

6max is like crack. You'll be back, offering hand jobs in dark back alleys for another shot at some 6max action

Re: Bye for now, HUSH. I need 9 opponents
if your having trouble at the 5/10 SH, you should drop down to the 3/6 SH. about 1000X weaker than the 5/10. And the 5/10 is weak.
cheers. |
