Default Home World Series

I want to hold a pseudo-World Series on a Friday night and all day Saturday. I'm thinking Friday night will be a lower buy-in NL Hold'em w/rebuys & add-on event. Saturday night will be the big buy-in NL Hold'em event.

I would like to have two other events on Saturday that aren't NL Hold'em. I thought 7-card stud and PL Omaha. However the people I play with aren't super-advanced at poker and know NL Hold'em almost exclusively. Stud, with the bring-ins and double bet option on 4th street, might blow their minds. They'll probably get Omaha, but the pot-limit part may be scary.

Any suggestions for games to change things up for the two Saturday games?

If they are unwilling to play a different game you can at least have a limit or pot-limit game.

If it's a wild and crazy bunch, how about Crazy Pineapple?

PL Omaha would be a good fit. That is a nontrivial game to deal (having to constantly know the pot size and not misreading hands at the showdown).

Good luck. Sounds like a lot of fun.

nh!

Crazy Pineapple...similar enough to Texas Hold'em to be easily understood...different enough to change the pace.

Good luck. I have found that trying to get home game players to play anything other than NLHE these days is an excercise in futility. That said, Omaha is probably the best bet.

Default I\'m starting to think that...

...it might be best to have two no-limit games, with a no-limit Crazy Pineapple game (which is very similar) and a no-limit heads-up championship.

How do your players feel about Limit Hold'em? It'll probably be easier for you to bring them about to that than Omaha or 7-stud.

I thought about limit hold'em, but a lot of the guys are down on it. "There's no strategy! You can't bluff! You can't chase anybody out of the hand! It's all the cards!" blah, blah, blah.

I'd rather not have to spend the whole night explaining to them why they're wrong on all counts.

i had the same problem, i tried a dealers choice game (nlhe, 7stud, omaha, limit he, 5draw, and threw in games like baseball, chicago, ace-low triple draw, acey-deucey, and some other crap to liven it up. it made for some fun games and introduced them to the rules so we could play those games in cgs later on. never tried a tournament though.
