Default a mass of newbs?? (kinda OT)

Anyone notice a horde of "newbs" (to be nice) joining us here? "Can I multi-table on Party?" "Should I datamine?" "Does taking notes help?" and many EXTREMELY over generalized questions. Is it just me or is this alot more than usual and if it is, where would they all be coming from?

Yes, but the "old-timers" were saying the same kind of thing when I registered 2 years ago.

It's cyclical. The WSOP brings new players and posters in each year; there's a similar phenomenon on Usenet and other message boards at Christmas (people with new computers) and in September (new college students).

I'm not sure that I've ever been involved in an internet group of any sort where there wasn't a near constant supply of low level grumbling about the good old days before all the newbies showed up.

Do remember that some folks change account names along the way as well. Someone who appears to be new may not be so new.

Also, in regards to asking the same sorts of questions when they start, remember that the search function here isn't exactly user-friendly.

Yes it is, they just don't bother with it 88.9% of the time.

In response to the OP, I'm in with the group who thinks a lot of it is a result of the Sports Illustrated article.

The search function is user-friendly once you learn how to use it, which in itself might make it somewhat un-user-friendly. Adding a + or - in front of a search term dramatically improves results.
