What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
How should the bring in be played? Is it compared to the SB in Holdem? Or more like a BB with a raise in front of you?
Should you be calling with a lesser hand, since you will be getting better odds on your money? Or, is a muck hand a muck hand? I know it depends... Does this make any sense? |

Re: What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
from what i understand, a muck hand is a muck hand, but i wouldn't play the BI like a blind in hold 'em.

Re: What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
So if I "bring in" with a hand I would normally fold, and it completes after, I should usually (obviously depending on many things) just go ahead and muck it?

Re: What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
Well, saying as I have been the bring-in 7/8's of the time rather than 1/8, I would never play a hand if I didn't play as the bring in. Just kidding!
Defending your bring in of course depends on the size of the BI compared to the small bet. If it is half, you are of course going to call a little more liberally. You may defend with any live pair in a multiway pot, etc.. As andy b would say "You're still going to have to show down the best hand. Don't think you can defend with some cheese like AK2 or something. Just give up and move on to the next hand. As Felicia Lee would say "There are soo many good spots to make money in poker, don't put up a big fight here" I am assuming you are playing in low stakes games with many multiway pots? If however, it is folded around to an aggressive player with an Ace showing who raises, and you just have a crummy pair, or something, you still may want to throw it away, as it may cost you too much $$ to keep him honest. It is also not worth making plays against bozos who won't realize its time to give up the charade, cause they just might end up catching that overcard anyway. To answer your question I guess: A crap hand is a crap hand. Ante sizes and other such things are going to factor into your decision, but just focus on playing solid 3rd street hands, and things will turn out good! |

Although, from what I understand a lot of people lose their $$ in hold em playing too liberally in the blinds. |

Re: What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
if I have a low pair/poor kicker that I would normally toss I will often call the completion if there are a couple callers already. It seems worth the small bet for the implied odds if you happen to hit your trips.....I could be wrong on the math here and am bleeding money though?

Re: What\'s with the \"bring in\"?
I call the completion with a decent number of small pairs with decently high or coordinated kicker and all live cards. If I don't get anything that improves me on 4th, then I let it go. But it depends on the ante/bet structure. In a $3/$6 game with $1 bi and .25 ante, it's not really worth it... in a $2/$4 game with the same $1 bi and .25 ante, I'm much more likely to do it. Position makes a difference, too... if the completion is from the high card on board to my immediate left, it's more worth it, since most likely I will have position on 4th.
