need help right now
sitting at a 3/6 table for nearly 2 hours now and i'm down about 300...
freaking total maniac to my right who is up 200 bucks. over 200 hands 70 / 49 / 3.65 and perfect calling station to my left. over 150 hands 68 / 1.4 / .3 maniac raises everying suited and and any single paint card. because he's soo crazy, my normal standards for folding most offsuit facecards to a raise in front of me don't seem to be working. he has me in a holding pattern waiting for suited face cards to cold-call with or medium/high pairs to isolate the maniac with. my vpip is lower than my friggin shoe size right now! Should i start cold calling more with suited connectors and 3 betting hands like A9, KT, QJ? |

Should i start cold calling more? [/ QUOTE ] No. 3-bet him to get him alone with any Ace, and big cards like KTo, QTo, etc. But be wary, this is a situation where you HAVE to play well posflop. If you are uncomfortable, I'd just get up and leave. |

my normal standards for folding most offsuit facecards [/ QUOTE ] You are not used to sh are you ? SH is all about big cards. I wouldn't mind isolating that kind of maniac with almost any 2 faced card here by 3 betting him preflop (never cold call plz) I will muck QT/QJ and prolly 3 bet him with the rest... Vs him you might even want to start capping as low as 88... If you don't hit or overcards to your pocket shows, just call him down he will bluff really often into you, with agression of 3 your best counter strategy is to call him down. Vs that kind of player you never really know where you stand since they will cap any draw like a gut... |

Re: need help right now
i was only cold-calling with hands like QJS, JTs to let the calling station in behind.
i'm starting to loosen up my 3 betting standards to isloate him.... how about 55+, A5+, and any 2 suited 8 or higher? |

Re: need help right now
Actually, I plugged this situation into pstove and think this is an okay spot to cold call hands like JTo etc.
Cold caller on your left will foil isolation attempts and hands like JTo are small dogs even to maniac's raising range--but they hit too many flops to give up when you're going to get paid off when you pair or hit a draw. I'd still reraise my best hands. |

Re: need help right now
Don't 3 bet him with trash like j8s ... you want showdown hand to call him down with... Ax,pockets, KT+, maybe Kxs if you are confortable postflop... etc

Re: need help right now
Definitely DO NOT isolate hands that can't get to showdown unimproved like 98s.
equity (%) 58.5507 % { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, Q2s+, J2s+, T6s+, 96s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, A2o+, K5o+, Q7o+, J7o+, T7o+, 98o } 41.4493 % { 98s } |

Re: need help right now
my instinct was not to try isolation raises with 98s, T9s, J9s, QTs, QJo, etc precisely because there are often people in front of him who limped and might call and the perfect calling station usually calls.
what range are you isolation raising him with? |

oh my god
maniac is now at 73 / 53 / 3.7 and the other players are starting to cold-call nearly as much as the perfect calling station.... isolation raising is a definite no-go.
but, i'm starting to recoupe earlier losses. jesus |
