Default Bear Encounter

I live in the forest - at about 9000 feet in the Colorado mountains. I was smoking some teriyaki chicken on the grill when this bear came walking up. My dog freaked, but the bear was like "LOL - like I'm scared of you". He grunted in my general direction a few times then sauntered off into the trees. Pretty damn cool.

Is that a baby? Seems kinda..small. Still, I'd have unclean shorts if I was confronted by it.

I've definitly seen bigger bears around, but his guys was big enough for me to retreat into the house and grab the shotgun just in case. The pic really doesn't do him justice.

A few years ago a bear broke into my shed (litterally ripped the moulding off of the shed and broke through the door) to get my trash. He grabbed a bag and started walking off. I was shouting at him because I didn't want my junk mail distributed throughout the forest. He reared up on his hind legs at looked at me. He was certainly taller than me (6'2"). Talk about soiling your shorts.

i have a black bear that lives on my property. its nice to have them around. once in awhile a grizzly comnes thru. those i can live without close encounters, which i have had a few times with them. rarely will you have a problem of security with a black bear. just keep food away and they dont want to see you at all. you are a lucky person to have a bear live by you.
