Default Call the flush draw because of pot equity?

I'm playing 1/2NL at FTP. I get A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] in CO.

Sorry about the lack of a HH, its from FTP so it isn't supported by the converter.

Loose table, so I deem them playable.

Folds to UTG+2 he min raises
and folds around to me. I call
SB raises to 8.

Looks a bit like a steal because I have seen him do it before.

UTG+2 calls and I call.

Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG+2 raises 1/2 pot.

I figure that SB will call and if that last spade falls I'm going to take this one to the bank.

SB raises the pot

Now I'm just pissed. I was playing off of the fact that SB would call and I would get pot equity. Now I think that this guy has just flopped trips or some random 2pair and is protecting.

UTG+2 calls. I figure him for AJ or over pair.

I know I am still around 34% to win this hand barring a paired spade if SB actually has trips.

I figure that I am paying 1/3 of the total pot to catch at 34% winner. If I am right I get to scoop up a ~$150-$200 or more.

I call.
Turn is a spade. SB bets pot, UTG+2 is all-in. I push all-in and SB calls.

SB turns over JJ
UTG+2 turns AA
and I flip my A8 flush

I wind up taking down a $230 pot when the river comes dead.

-------------------------------------------

Was this some really lucky hand for me or did I make the right move and call the draw?

I got called all sorts of names for that play so I just left with their money.

you are a 34% winner if you see both turn and river.

considering you will probably call a sizable turn bet should the turn come a blank, your effective odds aren't nearly as good as you think.

You should be as concerned about the fact that being pissed off may have influenced your decision as you are about the implied odds.

All in all though, nice catch!
