Maybe I\'m psychic, but I still misplay hands (medium content)
These two hands probably represent the two big mistakes I used to make somewhat often, but now I make them only when I'm not too focused on my game. I'm mostly posting these because there's a nice that there's a story to go along with it. But if you learn something, that's nice.
I've been raising/folding preflop because hands were coming out that way. I raised 3-4 times in the first orbit (and lost all of those hands), and have since been sitting around waiting for something playable to roll by (3-4 orbits). The previous hand I stole the blinds with KJo. Villain in the first hand is a little bit of a LAG. Not too over the top, but definitely likes his bet/raise button. Earlier, he failed to take the pot with A5o UI betting from beginning to end. Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is MP3 with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 4 folds, Hero raises, 3 folds, BB calls. Flop: (4.50 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls. Turn: (4.25 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero calls. River: (6.25 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero calls. Final Pot: 8.25 BB My mistake: Too passive on the turn on the scare card. If he has the flush, then he has it. This hand is worth at least a raise, maybe even a cap against this particular player. The player to my left starts talking: "Does he always raise or something?" Usually, I don't respond, but I'm a little bored and the game is running a little slow, and I plan to leave at the end of the next orbit. So I start up some table talk. "I only raise my good hands. You know, the ones that flop two pair and things like that." "Nice to be psychic." A few hands later, this hand rolls along... Villain here is a decent, aggressive player. I know he's been stealing a couple blinds, and he probably thinks I'm too aggressive, and probably a LAG, especially after the A3s hand. Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (8 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 6 folds, SB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB caps, Hero calls. Flop: (8 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB calls. Turn: (7 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls. River: (9 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls. Final Pot: 11 BB My mistake: I should just call the check-raise and raise him on the turn. Me: "See... hands that flop two pair." Him: "God, you are psychic." The very next hand: Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (7 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. MP2 posts a blind of $1. 2 folds, MP2 (poster) checks, 2 folds, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP2 calls. Flop: (5 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, MP2 folds. Final Pot: 3 BB Me: "Only flopped one that time." The other guy left the table a couple hands later, and I left at the end of the orbit as I planned. |

I like how you structured this post. It shows how your play on one hand not only affects your profit on that hand, but your profit on subsequent hands as well. It can be easy to forget this when the other player isn't blowing smoke in your face at a cardroom or bar.

[/ QUOTE ] (It's called "crazy" but if you think about it, he looks like he's ready to cry ) I wish I had more stories and insights to share. When I get them, I pass them along, but I hold back on the less interesting thoughts I have to reduce the clutter (and there's plenty of clutter). |
