My 1st trips into 3/6 and 5/10 - advice needed
I feel comfortable now in 3/6 and feel they are basically the SAME players that there are in 2/4. Still a lot of real dumb play.
My question is that I have been playing the SB more like the middle positions. Is this what is suggested . . . basically? Also - I made my 1st foray into 5/10 and to my surprise, STILL a lot of dumb players. yea yea - I lost $100 but only because of suck outs and people hitting their inside straights on the river and cold calling with 97o. I lost $100 but and not THAT concerned - only 10BBs. At what point does the play get tough. I feel I can play with the 5/10 guys although I'm going through sticker shock losing $100, I just convert it into 2/4 and 3/6 do keep me balanced. Iin my small sample of 120 hands, I was unimpressed. Sorry if I sound cocky, but I saw a lot of bad play!! People raising with non nut flush draws with only 2 people in the hand (and hitting grrrrr). Cold calling with bad cards (and hitting grrrrrr). ALSO - If I am normally playing two 3/6 tables - am I actually lowering my limit by playing ONE 5/10 table? Grinders Warehouse BLOG Edition |

[/ QUOTE ] if we assume that you have the same win rate per 100 hands (probably not correct, but pretty close) and the SD per 100 hands in terms of BB is the same the following situation occurs: EV: -10,9% SD: +15,1% that means in the short run you will have a lesser expectation coming along with more risk. |

I'm making the same move and noticed the same thing. With good table selection I've found some bad 5-10 players.

although I'm going through sticker shock losing $100 [/ QUOTE ] If thats the case, what are you doing at 3/6? or 2/4? You must be running hella good if you haven't had a -$100 night at either of those limits. |

Agreed. If you can't bear losing more than $500, 5/10 is a stupid idea and 3/6 probably isn't even advisable. You can play great poker and lose more than $500 in a night, and if you can't handle even a fraction of that, you're making a big, big, mega-tilt bankroll-busting mistake.

"Bad" play exists at almost every level. But, you run out of the clueless type around 10/20. The real danger as you move up in limit is not the lack of bad players, but the presence of good players who can chew you up. If 2/4 and 3/6 are JV, 5/10 and 10/20 are the Varsity, and you will have to raise your game, regardless of what you perceive the level of competition to be...there's too much money on the line not to do so.
And, I agree with the rest of the posters that $100 should not cause you any pause in a 5/10 game. For that matter, why were you only buying in for 10 BB(or am I reading that wrong)? |

If you are concerned about losing $100, you may be setting yourself up for some frustrating experiences. No matter how good you are, you can't really avoid losing $100 in a session, much less $500 or more. You should have about 3K to risk in this game.

Re: My 1st trips into 3/6 and 5/10 - advice needed
I'm not concerned at all with losing $100 - I've done it often LOL.
if you READ the post I said [ QUOTE ] I lost $100 but I'm not THAT concerned [/ QUOTE ] Heck - I've made $20,000 in 2/4 the last 16 months ( see my blog). It's just the fact that at 2/4 and 3/6 I really have to work at losing $100 - 5/10 BAM gone! LOL As for the sticker shock - you tell me that you did not get a little antsy the 1st time you moved to a higher limit table! It takes a little getting used to. It's not the money in the bank - it's the fact that I'm putting $30 out on one reraise - just SEEING that much is disconceting the 1st few times. Grinders Warehouse BLOG Edition |
