Pushing would normally indicate he doesn't have the hand on the river. I think it is probably an ok call, but close. He could just be really exited about his great hand, or he could be doing reverse-psychology.

ps - I hate it too...pot is too big, hand is not bulletproof and you have only 450 chips left.
