Pre-flop Play from EP
I was having an argument with some posters on another poker board about pre-flop play from early position. These people were playing way too tight. In the context of Party Poker $3/6 people were saying you shouldn't play pairs as high as TT and 99 from EP. Someone else chimed in about mucking KQ (suited or not) from EP as well. Mind you, this was not facing a raise but opening. Anyway, as soon as I responded by telling people they were too tight (citing, among other things, SSHE), people moved the discussions to higher limits, e.g. the $20/40 games they claimed to be playing in. So I then turned to HPFAP and Middle Limit Hold 'Em still to no avail with this group. Every time I countered they tried to re-describe the games they were referring to as tougher than I can possibly imagine them actually playing in. Nonetheless, I still maintained that even if the games were so tough they were playing too tight.
Anyway, I am just curious to hear from the mid-high posters their thoughts on pre-flop play from EP, not necessarily in the typical good mid-high games, but in the tougher ones. I.e., in your tougher games, what is the lowest pocket pair that you will either open with or overlimp/raise with from EP and what is the lowest suited broadway/suited connector that you would open or overlimp/raise with. If your play is still pretty much HPFAP recommendations then you can use that for short. Thanks.
