National Heads-Up Championship: Final this weekend
Two shows this weekend:
Saturday at 3:30PM EST for 90 minutes and Sunday's finale at 1PM EST for two hours. All those who think there hasn't been enough actual poker, tune in this weekend. The final coverage is awesome (and so is the coverage of the semis). For more details on the tournament and the tv schedule, go to the NBC Heads Up Poker Championship Web Site |

Re: National Heads-Up Championship: Final this weekend
this show is great tv...
paul phillips may have my favorite line, when he said to hellmuth, "i'm glad you have cute names for your stupid little hands". i was there watching live the entire last day, and believe me when i say - this weekend will be even better tv than what has happened thus far. |

Re: National Heads-Up Championship: Final this weekend
The Phillips/Hellmuth match was hilarious. "Why shouldn't I be a favorite? I only have 9 WS bracelets in hold'em."
I am looking forward to more tabletalk like this. It's hard enough playing Phil, but him talking during the entire match has to make it even more difficult. If I played him, I would play as bad as I could just so I could listen to him tear me appart. And what is the deal with these announcers? They make Norm and Lon look like they know a thing or two. |

Re: National Heads-Up Championship: Final this weekend
i was there too... the championship ended at 3am and there were players coming back into the casino as word was spreading about the drama that unfolded... never mind hearing the table talk on tv you could hear it in the room that night... it was the best stuff ive ever seen live... i hope nbc continues to include all the talk... so far so good...

Re: National Heads-Up Championship: Final this weekend
I do like the table banter, but the poker coverage is absolutely horrible!! Constant cuts to all-ins on other tables, cut back to one hand then commercial then repeat. Terrible!!!
It has to get better I hope. |

Curious about Helmuth v. Philips hand
Philips on button, both limp, flop AK9 two suited, Helmuth flops top pair, mid-kicker, Philips flops second pair, weak kicker. Helmuth checkraises flop, then moves in on turn. Philips, though muttering he felt like he had a monster because he was running so card dead, makes it look like an easy laydown. Given pot odds, relative stack sizes, possible draws out there, and the way Helmuth played hand pre-flop, this did not seem like an obvious laydown to me. And if Helmuth is not going to get called a good % of the time in this type of situation, it would have to be very wrong to play the hand the way he did (and I very much liked the way he played the hand).
