How to play big pocket pair against raiser?
This is a hand I'm sure that I misplayed, but am not sure how to play correctly.
PartyPoker .5/1 Hold'em 6 handed Preflop: Hero in CO with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] UTG calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 3 folds, UTG calls. Flop: (5.5 SB) J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 10 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) UTG bets, Hero raises, UTG reraises, Hero reraises, UTG calls. Turn: (6.75 BB) 10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG bets, Hero calls. River: (8.75 BB) A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG bets, Hero calls. UTG shows J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG wins with full house, Tens full of Jacks. I think that on the flop, I definitely should have just called when he raised instead of reraising. But I wonder if I should have folded to his aggression on the turn. I'm hoping this example might provide a guideline on playing big pocket pairs against agression. Thanks |

Folding this hand anywhere would be bad (he could be betting AJ, KJ, or QJ. Sometimes you're going to pay off better hands. |

Re: How to play big pocket pair against raiser?
With big PP like (QQ, KK, AA), I would have raised the flop like you did, and then call down everything after that. You can't give him credit for two pair or better. Also, if a K had come out on the river, you boat beats his and you get a lot of action. I like your initial raise, but when the 3-bets you, just call down.

I also forgot, folding is a bad idea here.

You played it fine, especially 6-handed.

I play the same way.
BTW, welcome to the forums. It's best not to post results initially because it will skew people's responses. |

Your hand looks fine to me.
Next time don't show us the results. Sometimes paying off is what you have to do in Poker, get used to it. |
