I Lost it Today
I hate to admit it, but I lost it today. I'm looking for better ways to handle this situation in the future. I know the one I chose wasn't optimal, but it did seem to have a quieting effect, at least.
OK, here's the situation: Party 5/10 6 max 1 player is absolutely terrible. 72/22/0.62 but he is catching extremely lucky for the last 300 hands or so. A rock and a tag decide to start insulting this guy every time he wins a hand. The bad player is a calling station, literally. I keep trying to protect him, and compliment him on his good hands against me, but the others keep insulting him. Of no small consequence, I am stuck about 200 to him as well. Finally after about 3 hours of trying to protect the fish, I got frustrated and basically told the fish to quit while he was ahead, and that he would lose everything for sure at this table. Suddenly the insulting players started attacking me and telling me to shut up. Since it was getting to them, I continued to advise the fish that he should leave now and get something nice for his family with the money he won today. It's been about an hour now, and no one has said anything insulting yet. I guess it worked. Strange thing is, the fish kept on playing. Makes me think he had the chat turned off. What do you think was the damage I caused here and how would you have done it differently? |

Re: I Lost it Today
unless that was the fish's first time play poker i imagine he knew ahead of time he would eventually lose all his money, but he contined to play anyway. you reminding him of this fact obviously didn't make him think twice.
you probably should have just kept quiet, but telling him to leave and buy his family something with the money is better than berating him like those others did. |

dont play live games [/ QUOTE ] LOL I play live frequently. Anywhere from 10/20 to 40/80 depending on who is there and what is being offered. This is completely different than live. |

[/ QUOTE ] You're saying fish don't get berated live? What planet are you living on? I will agree that online it's more rampant, but 'completely different'? I don't think so. b |

how would you have done it differently? [/ QUOTE ] I play the 5/10 6-max all the time. Here's the situation as best I understand it: A ridiculously bad calling-station who runs well and gets attacked by a couple other table-coaches (semi-fish perhaps) while I haven't caught many breaks and am $200 down. This happens to me on one of my tables all the time. And I mean almost every day if I'm playing 4 tables. You're going to have really bad calling stations. And you're going to have really stupid and obnoxious table-coaches. And sometimes you're going to be stuck $200 (which isn't unusual at all on a 5/10 6-max table....this is barely even a blip of a swing). As for your question of how I would have handled it...since it happens pretty much all the time I guess I would do what I always do...just keep playing and if I'm going to make some comment make it something along the lines of "thank you" or "i like tacos". Trying to justify the fish's play or telling him "nh" usually isn't going to get you very far imo. The coaches will just keep going on and on about "Keep playing J4o like that moron. LOL. You're f'cking terrible." (blah blah blah). I see chat like this every night. |
