Default Blind defense from tonight

Go easy on me here, gang. This is only my 3rd hand post. I've read Jones, HE for Advanced Players, and have been playing on line for about 3 months now. Consider myself average but improving.

This hand was too early to have any reads on the other players.

Ultimate Bet 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, 4 folds, SB completes, Hero raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, SB calls.

Flop: (8 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, SB calls.

Turn: (6 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls, MP1 raises, SB folds, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls.

River: (12 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets, MP1 folds, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 14 BB

Next one primarily screwed up, I think, when I wiffed on an attempt at a turn check raise. Was that a moronic idea in that spot?

Default Re: Blind defense from tonight

Hand 1 isn't really a blind defense persay, since you were the preflop raiser. You could maybe have used a bet/fold line on the river there, as it seems unlikely that the Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] is out there and you'd hate for this one to get checked around with nobody holding the flush. But I don't hate check/call either when you're getting 13:1 closing the action.

As for Hand 2, I'm not at all familiar with the typical level of competition on UB 2/4, but I don't dislike a turn c/r if you can pull it off there. Although actually I'd go with a stop & go and lead the turn...you actually do have a very strong draw, and that J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is a big-time scare card. Given your bet/call on the flop I have to think that he's folding UI overcards if you lead the turn.
