Varkonyi never invited
Varkonyi may not be a great player, and is nerdy and a bit weird, but he did win the ME at the 2002 WSOP.
How come he is never invited to any of the TV invitational tournaments? Did he kill someone or something? Heck if he needs help, he can bring his coach! |

Re: Varkonyi never invited
he hasn't really won anything since poker has become megapopular. not to mention his name is like a jungle gym of pain to pronounce.

Re: Varkonyi never invited
Are you sure he hasn't been invited?
Those TV tournaments usually require substantial buy-ins and I doubt Varkoni wants to put up that kind of money. |

Re: Varkonyi never invited
he sucks. he got absolutely ran over by the deck in 2002. he is a one hit wonder like moneymaker, maybe even more so.

[/ QUOTE ] i dont know if i would agree with either of those statements. sure varkonyi got ran over by the deck, but it is absouletely impossible to "suck" at poker and win the main event. you dont play poker for multiple days and stay alive exclusively through luck rj |

Re: Varkonyi never invited
Let me follow up on the original post. You guys are debating his skill level. Agreed he might be the worst ME champ in quite a number of years, but wouldn't you think he would be invited by FSN for their convoluted tournament. It is a $40,000 buy-in, but I would assume he would go for that(or he could sell part of himself etc.) I just think something is weird here, that he has kind of disappeared.

Re: Varkonyi never invited
well in addition to not really being taken seriously by many poker players, he won the even the year before it got big and he has less personality than any other human being ive ever seen. this is probably why he isnt being invited to many of the televised events.
