Vegas room with free lessons/classes for new players?
To follow up on my previous post, are there any rooms that offer poker lessons like they do for other casino games? Bringing along a couple of new players that have played in our homes games frequently but never sat at a real table, think they would benefit from a class just to get used to the table size, the action at the table etc. Calls I have made so far have not gotten anywhere. Thanks very much.

Imperial Palace has daily lessons around 11:00 AM. They spread a $1/2 game afterwards.

Excalibur has lessons at 2:00 in the afternoon.
My wife took a lesson when we were there a couple of weeks ago and she said it was good and I saw the handout and it looks like they do actually cover some good beginning stuff. |

Luxor does a daily lesson as well, not sure the time. They also have a nice 1/2 game for about an hour afterwards with the class and the teacher dealing. So it is a good way to get your feet wet before the sharks at 2/4 jump on you.

Excalibur
Luxor Imperial Palace Plaza Boulder Station Aladdin Those are the only ones I know of offering classes. Each place has different times and days, so contact the poker room or exacts on each one. |

The Luxor 1/2 is a regular game there actually (2-3 tables worth), unless it was changed recently, they have always had it going when I have played there, it of course really really sucks, unless your NEW, same goes for 2/4.
Instead of playing 1/2 or 2/4 your better off at a Blackjack table w/basic strategy, Craps w/passline & odds bets, or Baccarat playing banker every time. [KISS methods of the games] The house is the big winner at 1/2 and 2/4. I'd recommend the Excalibur for the lessons, play after long enough and the free buffet food will appear, sometimes pretty good. >TW< |

[/ QUOTE ] It still runs, although I'd actually call it a $2/2 game -- bets are $2 preflop, $1-2 spread limit on the flop, and $2 on the turn and river. No one actually bets <$2 on flop, so it works out to $2 bets on all streets. The weird structure is basically to juice the pot so they can rake it more. |

Re: Vegas room with free lessons/classes for new players?
When I was there in April there was no 1/2 running at all until the classes started, then the 1/2 started ran for about 30-60 mins and they chased everyone off the table to the 2/4. Now of course every table was running, it was Sunday afternoon and they were starting the ticket tournament. So it may have been timing that they wanted the 2/4 and 3/6 to run on the tables. It isn't the biggest card room in vegas, but the floor was really nice. Dealers were competent and players were horrible (especially during the ticket tourney where my buddy was up $350 in an hour at 2/4. Average pot was 50 bucks.)
