Default Intervention Star Spotted!

So tonight I was down at Chumash casino in Santa Ynez, Ca. (near Santa Barbara, Ca.)and walking past the blackjack tables I spot the guy who had the gambling addiction on the show "Intervention". I doubted it at first, but after watching him play multi-handed $10 - $20 bets it was sure enough him. Arms flaled when he busted and cheers grew loud when he won. The dealer nearby commenting about it as well and there was a pit boss writing something down. I guess the intervention didn't work.

That guy's appearance on Intervention convinced me entirely that rational argument is pointless when addiction is concerned.

Sadly, I should have known this already, but his performance really nailed it home for me.

Having some experience with addiction on the treatment side (I mean, I was the "professional," even though I don't think I was a very good one), I remember the saying that some of the other doctors had: It isn't a matter of "if" the person relapses, it's a matter of "when" they relapse, and when they do, how will they handle it.

I wouldn't call the intervention a total failure if you see the guy once. For all we know, he might have gone back, done some thinking and decided that he wants to clean back up.

Then again, if you see him again, yeah, that's a problem.

FYI he didn't even complete the treatment program they set him up with on the show.

Sad, but funny at the same time. The guy is in his late 20's (30?) and he whines and literally sounds like a 12 year old whose balls haven't dropped.

I also want to put a large amount of blame on the parents for not curbing him long ago. His mom is super passive.
He needs to have his knees busted or something so he learns his lesson.

Oh. I musta fallen asleep by the time they got to that part.

*SIGH*

The trouble with interventions is that they're invariably done when the recipient couldn't be less interested in recovery.

I just hope his parents had the good sense to cut him off as they were threatening in the intervention.

You should have challenged him to a HU match. That dude was supremely annoying.
