Re: drill me for this one..
Preflop is a grey zone. For me, I probably would limp this puppy hoping for more company, but raising is not wrong either. In fact, most people on this forum think I'm too passive for limping this kind of hand out of MP1 or MP2, so while I disagree with this move, that just means *I'm* wrong.
Let's look at this flop: you've got second top pair with overcards all over creation, no straight draw, and no flush draw. If you're ahead, it's by a TRICKLE. If you're behind, you're drawing to 5 outs. Nonetheless, I really think you're right to raise this. Second pair heads-up is a strong hand, and an isolation raise continues your preflop aggression and faces CO with calling two cold. Again, I think you found the right play. Turn is an obvious bet. You've now got two pair, aces up. Nobody's ahead of you here. I think you missed a value bet on the river, but it's really close. I'm guessing BB has KT or some such, and he's going to make a crying call to you with his tens and fours. He didn't like the ace, and he didn't want to lead this river -- I think the odds of a check-raise are very low. I also think he's going to call you with his T. Again though, an argument could easily be made that this is a good check-through opportunity if you think a T folds here. All in all, I'd have played the hand quite differently, but I can't really strongly disagree with ANY play you made here, and I think your play is more standard (and +EV) than mine would be. |

Re: drill me for this one..
I raise the flop as well, hoping to knock out CO.
Bet the river. |

Re: drill me for this one..
To me, the whole hand looks good until missing a seemingly straightforward river value bet.
Good chance you're best. Lots of worse hands will call. Am I missing something? |

Re: drill me for this one..
The flop raise is much better than a flop call if you're going to play this, and I think with the size of the pot, middle pair, and a 5 outer, you should.
If you think it's unclear with the math, consider that if you get a free card then the play has pretty much paid for itself. a 5 outer is 4:1 in two cards, and you've got 7 SB in the pot. You'll pick up the eighth if you hit your hand. Got to bet the river, though. |
