Default A hand I thought I played poorly... (flop only)

UTG+1 is a TAG and has been raising a little light -- rest of the table is pretty normal, unexciting. I've been raising a lot and pushing around a lot of players post-flop and haven't had to show down a whole lot.

Hero has black 8s in MP.

UTG+1 open raises, MP1 folds, Hero 3-bets, all fold to UTG+1 who calls.

Flop is 679 rainbow (2 players, 7.5 SB)
UTG+1 checks, I bet, UTG+1 check-raises, I 3-bet?
-----
Pre-flop 3-bet, too much, given my table image? Good/Bad/Marginal?

Flop 3-bet?

I have serious issues mucking mid-pairs pre-flop. It's a personal thing, and I can see how it may be the best play.

I like the PF 3-bet to isolate the TAG raiser.

I also like the flop 3-bet even though calling would be ok as well. The advangtages to raising are: You have a lot of outs to improve and in case you don't, you can take a cheap showdown by betting the turn and checking the river. Or, you can take a free card on the turn, but I don't like this idea because if we are ahead, I don't like giving free cards to overcards.

meep described the PF raiser as a "light raising TAG." Mucking 88 here is pretty bad.

I would play it the same. 3-betting makes the hand easier. If I'm capped, I'm behind a set or overpair and I can fold UI on the river. I'm going to war if I hit an out. What's your turn and river plan?

You can't fold this turn, ever. You have an OESD.
[edit - well, if the turn pairs the board, you can think about it, I suppose]

My plan was to bet the turn (call a raise) and possibly the river, UI. The river bet would really depend on the board, though.

Yes I know, I said I would fold on the river UI.

I don't mind three betting the flop, I don't mind calling and raising the turn. I tend to do the latter a little too much though.

To be more precise, I think we're talking 12-15% PFR over several hundred hands.
