Default I just won a ticket to play in this years WSOP !

Now I need to know where people prefer to stay, but more importantly Id like to know if there are any amateur accounts of what its like to sit at the WSOP main event.

I dont realistically think I have a chance of winning the whole dance, but I hope I can hold my own.

Anyone know where to get first hand info on what its like to be in the tournament?

By the way, I won the ticket playing at a charity casino in Miami. I cannot believe this!

Go down to Vegas.
Sell your seat for face value.
Play $1/$2 for a week or so.
Fly back home ~$10k richer.

Congrats.

Remember that this year should be close to 6000 players and is at a different casino then it was previously.

So even those newbies who played last year won't have as much of a handle of how it will change for this year.

You won't be alone though. Since there are SO MANY people playing it this year I think we can safely assume that many of those players will have qualified online and are playing their first live-tourney and/or their first WSOP.

I played my first live tournament a couple months ago on the partypoker cruise.
I do have some live ring-game play but was aware that I was bit out of my element. I do admit to being a bit nervous.
But there were so many other online-qualifiers who were also pretty new to the live-tourney scene that it wasn't so bad.

If you barely know how to play live though then there will be some mechanical things that will be hard to make up. Just make sure you play in turn...etc etc.

Day 1 is divided into 3 days this year at the WSOP.
2k players on the first day. Another 2k players on the next day. The last 2k players on day 3. Then all those who survived their respective day 1's will meet on day 4.
If you don't have to play on Day1a then perhaps you can still arrive in time to just observe some of the live action.
This is what I did on the cruise. I didn't have to play until the 2nd day....just standing around and observing some of the first day action helped me a little bit.

Don't listen to ideas that it would be impossible for you to make the money.
Typically just cracking the top 10% or so will get you your entry-fee back.
In other words, I suspect that if you finish 600th out of 6000 you will win $10k. So it IS possible to make the money in your first shot at it. I finished 177th out of 740 on the cruise and won a whopping $5k.

Was it a raffle ticket, or did you win a tournament to get the seat?

wow. 3 after the bubble. congrats :-p. I thought the most nervewracking thing aobut the PPM (other than folding for what seemed like hours on end) was having to stay in my seat for 8 straight hours tht first day. probably good training for the WSOP though

I'd recommend picking up Chris Moneymaker's book. It's an excellent account of his experience at the WSOP. It's an easy fun read. It has nothing to do with stradegy, but rather what he saw and experienced leading up to and through the main event. I would say a must read for anyone that had never been to a multi-day event.

Did anyone mention Chris moneymaker's book? it is not great, but it " gives an amateur's first hand account of this tournament.
