Stars $114 - TT - Bet the turn?
Put the villian on a flush draw, and thought I'd give him a free card to get there. Anybody bet this turn? Or is giving the free card the best plan?

Re: Stars $114 - TT - Bet the turn?
Charge him for it. He's drawing dead, sure, but he's 4-1 against making his flush. If he hits, you probably take his stack, but you get nothing if he misses. Might as well lock up some chips on the turn.

Re: Stars $114 - TT - Bet the turn?
I'd make a small bet. If he is indeed drawing, he'll call. Most of the time he is going to miss his flush, might as well get some money in now. Also, with more money in the pot, you're more likely to get his whole stack if he hits (although you likely would have anyways).

Re: Stars $114 - TT - Bet the turn?
Villain could be drawing to a flush, but he could also have a wide range of hands here.
There's a few factors you aren't considering on the turn. First off, a flush draw is going to pay you off now, but not later. If he has a flush draw, you want to charge him for it, and give him closer to correct odds to justify a call. He could also have a strangely played overpair, set, 7, or even random trash - people limp call with a lot of weird stuff at these levels. Regardless, if you check and the flush card comes, you'll most likely kill the action unless he actually has the flush, and how do you know which he has? For these reasons, I like a small bet, maybe 200-300 again on the turn. The flush will call with his odds, stronger hands (overpair, set, 7) will try to charge you to draw, and marginal or even complete trash may come over the top sensing weakness. Of course, if he has nothing he probably isn't paying you off on the river anyways. |

Re: Stars $114 - TT - Bet the turn?
I definitely bet the turn. At worst bet the same amount you bet on the flop, or even less if you want. Both of these plays are better than checking, since it's hard to fold for less on the turn then it was to call on the flop. I would generally bet like 300-350 here.
Please get out of the habit of automatically checking a monster hand. It doesn't make any sense, especially here. Your opponent could have a club draw, which means this is the ONLY time they will pay you off unless they hit, and you can easily bet an amount to make them call. They could have a 7 in which case youll make all the money anyway. If they have a 5 or some pocket pair there is a good chance they will call a small-medium sized bet, or might even decide you are full of it and raise. On the river however their 5 or pocket pair can shrivel up to next to nothing if another high card comes. In all honestly I almost NEVER slowplay in sit+go's. Of course I do sometimes but its very very rare thus I like to accentuate how uncommon it is, and this surely isn't a time when I'd do so. |
