When to start building for the final table
Last night I was in a $20 MTT with 1500 folks.
When we got down to around 40 I started to press, I was in the top 10 stack wise. It wasn't the first time I made the monsy, but the first where I thought about setting myself up for the final table. I made one wrong decision and it lead to my demise. When is a good time to start setting up the stack for the final table? |

Re: When to start building for the final table
lately when i've started tournaments i've looked at what kind of stack would be average for the FT (total pool / 10) early on and tried to keep looking towards that. mostly just a psychological trick, but i like it.

Re: When to start building for the final table
I think you answer your own question.
When the blinds get big, almost everyone is playing for their stack on any hand they get involved with. Trying to "build up for the final table" sounds like a way to gamble with less of an edge. Instead, just play solid poker and aggressively pursue hands where you have an edge. You need to take chances only when you have less than 10 BBs. Otherwise, even if you have 1/8 the stack of the leader, that is only 3 winning hands away from victory. I frequently see the chip leader going in to the final table, with double the stack of the next best, go out in 6th or 7th. Sabre170 |
